A New Beginning.
January 1, 2015 is the first blank page of a 365 page book. What would you like to accomplish? What particular area of your family life and relationships do you want to see improve? What do you want to achieve financially?
Attaining personal ambitions and goals are major objectives of a financial planning process. Setting these goals puts you in charge of your money and life.
In setting goals be specific and realistic. For example there is a difference between wanting to be rich and saving a million Naira by December 2015. The latter is specific and easy to measure. Make sure you write your goals down and if you are a visual person, create the picture of what you want to achieve, paste it in a place where you can easily “see†them. Keep each goal simple and give it a timeframe. Set big goals, and smaller ones to help you get there.
Take actions to reach your goals. Review your progress periodically. Financial goals are flexible. They will change as your life situation changes. When you achieve a goal, celebrate. Then set yourself a new one. If you have not met your goals, do not beat yourself up. Just take steps to get back on track.
As you develop and implement your financial plan, think of planning for unfortunate events. We are exposed to different risks such as potential loss of earnings due to poor health, injury or other unforeseen events. These can drain resources, ruin lives and undermine your plan. Managing these risks ensures that our way of life can remain unaffected by unexpected events. One way to manage financial risk is through the purchase and use of insurance. Insurance protects people from unexpected losses, by compensating them when these events occur. Also, we can protect ourselves against losses by avoiding risk. For example, we can help avoid long-term health care problems by living an active and healthy lifestyle.
The New Year provides another opportunity for a new beginning. Setting goals give direction to our lives. Take advantage of this. Remember the plan of the diligent leads to abundance.
